After studying Industrial Design, Yacouba Tanou moved to Washington DC in 2003, Because the geopolitical situation in Cote d'Ivoire became very unstable.
"Photography for me is about being creative. About being 110%. About being professional. About being on time. About being in the mood when you're not in the mood. About being strong and fresh when you are tired.
It's about being an artist. Being a story teller. Being a poet, being relaxed. Being on the edge. Being instinctive. Being different. Being inspired and inspirational.
It's about being where things happen. It's about being the thing that makes things happen. It's about being a part of things and apart from them at the same time.
It's about being the eyes of others. It's about being strong, being soft, about being firm, about being patient, about being the first and only kid that draw a man with mustache when everybody else draw a person. About being the one person that sees the way the light hits the side of a person's face at a particular moment. About being alert. It's about being focused. It's about being intuitive.
Being a photographer is about being in the moment. So you learn to juggle. To somehow get all the components in the right place at the right time and keep them there long enough to prove that it happened and most importantly ... that you got the shot".
